March 5 - Moving Day

MOVING DAY:  FROM KIWIS TO KANGAROOS

If this day had been filmed, it would've been called (with apologies to the classic move The Longest Day) "The Shortest Night."  We slept a few hours before alarms began going off at 3:00 AM so we could catch our 3:45 AM (yes, I'm serious) shuttle to Christchurch Airport for the 6:10 AM flight to Sydney.  I expected to sleep a couple of hours on the flight, but struck up a conversation with a retired sheep farmer from outside Sydney who had been in NZ on a motorcycle tour of the South Island.  As is evident, he was an interesting guy, and we talked much of the way over.  Uneventful 3 1/2 hr. flight to Sydney, followed by running the gauntlet through Customs and Immigration.  That went okay, as did the shuttle to the domestic shuttle.  Since Virgin Australia surprisingly didn't serve a meal on the "short haul international" flight, we went for coffee and muffins while awaiting our flight to Coffs Harbour, which was delayed about 35 mins. before taking off.  The flight was about an hour, and we arrived to warm temperatures at Coffs, to be greeted by our dear friends Keith and Di, whom we hadn't seen since July 2014.  They looked great, and it was a happy reunion.  We made the 30-40 min. drive back to Nambucca and made camp at Keith and Di's, where we'll stay until July 17.  Kookaburras on the next door neighbors' antenna greeted us.

We did some catching up, relaxed with some wine, and wandered down to the beach for a short walk.  After dinner we turned in ... Susan and I had been awake since 1:00 AM Australia time, so the Sandman was calling loudly and insistently.  We heeded the call.
